Shakira has named her newly born son Sasha Piqué Merbarak.
The 37-year old singer, who also has 2-year old son, Milan with boyfriend, Gerard Piqué, welcomed their second child into the world in a hospital in Barcelona, Spain on Thursday night, January 29, 2015 via a scheduled Caesarean section.
The ‘Beautiful Liar’ hitmaker and the baby ‘are in excellent health,’ and the couple also explained the meaning of their tot’s name in a statement via Shakira’s website yesterday, Friday, January 30, 2015.
According to the statement, ‘We are happy to announce the birth of Sasha Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 29 at 9:54pm, in Barcelona. The name Sasha is of Greek and Russian descent and means ‘defender of mankind’ and ‘warrior.’
‘The hospital confirmed that both mother and child are in excellent health.’
