The Borno State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Zannah Mustapha, on Friday confirmed that Thursday’s bomb attack on Biu Main Market was carried out by two teenagers.
Mustapha, while condemning the incident, said eight persons died in the explosion and 20 others were injured.
Addressing journalists in Maiduguri, he said many attempts had been made in the past by members of the Boko Haram terror group to invade Biu one of which led to the killing of over 40 members of the group.
The deputy governor said it was however disheartening that the sect could wreak such havoc on Thursday.
Mustapha, however, assured the residents of the state that insurgency would soon become a thing of the past going by the assurances and dedication of the military to stamp out the menace.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Power, Mr. Mohammed Wakil, described the attack as a desperate move by the insurgents to divert the attention of the military from the main epicentre of the ongoing war against them.
Wakil said the insurgents had been rattled by the successes recorded by the military in conjunction with the multi-national troops to wipe them out.
The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the state, Alhaji Mohammed Imam, also condemned the bomb attack.
Imam, in a statement by the chairman, media committee of his campaign, Inuwa Bwala, described the attack as a crime against Nigeria and her people.
