Five members of the federal house of representatives have announced their defection from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
They are Isiaka Mohammed, Ibrahim El-sudi, Taraba, Adams Jagaba, Kaduna, Hambe Herman, Benue, and Ahmed Aisha Dahiru, Adamawa.
In a related development, five house members from Ogun state also dumped from the opposition APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The house members are Tunde Ogunlana, Adeyemi Adekunle, Olumide Osoba, Abiodun Audu and Taofik Ogunmola.
The defection factually signifies no arithmetical progress for APC, having lost five members and increased another five.
But it does decrease the chances of PDP to effect Tambuwal's removal as speaker of House of Reps.
A wind of defections in recent months has produced common changes in the numerical strength of the two principal parties in the lower chamber.
PDP earlier had 189 members to APC's 159, the remaining 12 lawmakers coming from other smaller parties. But after Tuesday's defection PDP's number drops to 184; and the loss of these five members further lessens the option of securing the nod of 240 of the 360-man chamber to impeach Tambuwal.
The Presidency and PDP lawmakers had planned to impeach the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Tambuwal following his recent defection to APC more than month ago.
